sweet stylish south

I am so excited to talk about one of my favorite topics in the world...the South! I am proud to say I am from the South and I indulge in all things Southern.  I must say the South is a hot place right now in terms of design.  There are magazines devoted to the region, the iconic Southern Living, the new Southern Flourish, and Garden and Gun, to name my favorites.  Most of my design crushes, as well as many of my favorite design bloggers, hail from the South, especially Atlanta, which holds a near and dear place in my heart..

One of my design idols, Suzanne Kasler, set up shop in Atlanta...

A new introduction but a fast favorite, Caldwell Flake, is based in Birmingham...

Of course, you can't beat the beauty of a home below the Mason-Dixon line...

I know I could go on and on and end up with a month devoted to posts about the South!! Hmmm....not a bad idea, I might just have a Southern September :)

favorite find of the week 8.27

My favorite find of the week is a new furniture company, Reagan Hayes.  Their tagline is "Youthful Elegance" and I couldn't have described it any better.  Reagan Hayes was started by an interior designer turned furniture designer.  It is all seating and it is all glamour.  I can't wait to see more from this company in the future!

come on in

I love to see how many different ways people can furnish a foyer/ entry area.  The foyer is a place where you can get creative with accessories, seating, and wallcoverings.  From traditional to funky to minimalist, it's too hard to pick a favorite photo!

just beachy

I am going to a Jack Johnson concert tonight and nothing reminds of the beach more than his music.  For today's post, I thought I would show some awesome beach places to get me in the mood for tonight!

I can feel my toes in the sand right now :)

he said she said

So, my husband and I finally have a contract on a piece of land to build a new house on! But, now we have opened up a new can of worms...trying to agree on house plans, style, etc...

I have always imagined a southern style house with the large front porch, light pouring in every room of the house, wood floors, the list could go on! With reading blogs and shelter magazines, I have an inspiration folder FULL of things I want in a house. Plus, being a designer, I am lucky enough to see what works and what doesn't when it comes to space planning, furniture, and finishes.  My husband, on the other hand, is definitely a man's man and is definitely lacking when it comes to style (I know harsh, but true!)...so I am a little confused when he disagrees with me on design and decor issues.  Do any of you ladies have this problem when it comes to your significant other??

monday musing

"What I know for sure is that no matter where you stand right now--on a hilltop, in a gutter, at a crossroads, in a rut--you need to give yourself the best that you have to offer in this moment. This is it. Rather than depleting yourself with judgments about what you haven't done, who you could have become, why you haven't moved faster, or what you should have changed, redirect that energy toward the next big push--the one that takes you from enough to better.  The one that takes you from adequate to extraordinary.  The one that helps you rise up from a low moment and reach for your personal best."

I saw this quote on Dayka's Life + Style blog a few weeks ago and it instantly became a favorite.  I hope everyone had a great weekend!! Mine started out pretty good...I won my first giveaway! I won the book, 'Design Life' by Nicole Sassaman, over at Blulabel Bungalow.  Thanks Erika!!!

favorite find of the week 8.20

While I was searching for accessories, I stumbled upon this great source, Clayton Gray Home. Imagine my surprise when I found out they were located less than five minutes away!!! They have a great variety of accessories, furniture, mirrors, along with many more things.  I am really loving the Pagoda magnetic wall boards! I am definitely stopping into this shop asap!

designer crush :: tobi fairley

I have just recently been introduced to Tobi Fairley's work.  She is an interior designer based out of Little Rock, Arkansas and her work is amazing! Traditional Home deemed her one of the "Top 20 Young Designers" in 2009 and it's easy to see why.  I am always a fan of rooms that are traditional in style but have a modern twist, be it with color or accessories, and that seems to be just her style!

hollywood haven

I am loving the interiors of Megan Mullally's home featured in the September issue of Elle Decor.  I love the crisp, clean interior with the pops of color thrown in. It's subtle but effective.

Her pool isn't too bad either!!

favorite find of the week 8.13

As soon as I opened the mailbox and saw the Ballard Designs catalog peeking out with it's soft pink cover and gold mirrors all over, I knew I was going to have every page bookmarked.  The latest Ballard catalog shows their collaboration with interior designer (and a personal fave), Suzanne Kasler.  I want everything from her collection! Here are just a few of my faves...

Thought I would also throw in a picture of a yummy cupcake since tomorrow is my birthday & a cupcake is always on my wish list ;)

white wash

I absolutely devoured the current issue of Lonny the day it came out! One thing I noticed in this issue was all the white! Maybe my memory is hazy but I thought the last issue had a lot more darker interiors.  Not that I am complaining! All the features looked crisp and refreshing!
