So, my husband and I finally have a contract on a piece of land to build a new house on! But, now we have opened up a new can of worms...trying to agree on house plans, style, etc...
I have always imagined a southern style house with the large front porch, light pouring in every room of the house, wood floors, the list could go on! With reading blogs and shelter magazines, I have an inspiration folder FULL of things I want in a house. Plus, being a designer, I am lucky enough to see what works and what doesn't when it comes to space planning, furniture, and finishes. My husband, on the other hand, is definitely a man's man and is definitely lacking when it comes to style (I know harsh, but true!)...so I am a little confused when he disagrees with me on design and decor issues. Do any of you ladies have this problem when it comes to your significant other??

To funny. My hubby has his opinion on things, and it doesn't matter that I trully know more on the subject than he does. I try to be as graceful as possible when telling him no. I appreciate his interest but he has absolutly no clue, LOL! Think horses, I have been riding and competing since childhood. He now has his first horse (that I found for him), and he wants to tell me how to do stuff. I am very happy he has a horse, but really?
Congrats on the contract. Now the "fun" compromise part, LOL!

ALWAYS!!! Congrats on building a house!! When my hubby tries to give his opinion about something design related I tell him to keep his mouth shut!!! LOL!
Wow so exciting! I think it's good to meet somewhere in the middle.
Luvs!
Good luck with the Husband, hopefully you'll meet middle of the road.
REGARDLESS: I Love the pic you posted, what a dream house! Gorgeous my lady.
Oh, don't even get me started on trying to decorate for my significant other. He is the worst. Our tastes actually don't differ too much from each other but the problem is getting him to see the big picture. He has such a hard time visualizing what something is going to look like unless it is completely done. It's such a hard sell trying to get him to trust me that a chair is going to look good in the living room or that a certain color is going to look great on the wall. He always loves it when it's done so you would think after 4 years of this he would just give it up already. lol. :o) Good luck with your decisions on a floor plan. I can't even imagine that task.
Ha! Mr. Deer overall is pretty good, he trusts me. And he has excellent taste. We clash most often when it comes to the graphic design I do for our shop, he thinks because he has worked 30 years in the restaurant industry that he knows what works, and I think that because I'm a designer, I do! I usually defer to him on that! XX!
Congrats! We have the exact same style...a front porch is a MUST HAVE in my book. The boy knows when the time comes it is not negotiable! lol
I'm having fun reading through some of your older posts! My hubby and I custom-built our house eight years ago. We struck a deal about the design - he got the bonus room, and I got the rest of the house. But here's the kicker -- anything I hate in the bonus room, I could veto. Anything he hated in the rest of the house, he could veto. You've got to be cautious about using your veto because it could come back to bite you! It's worked well for us ... I don't think I've ever gotten vetoed. OK, I take that back. I desperately wanted a kitchen faucet that did not come with a side sprayer. He's the cook and said he couldn't live without that. So we compromised on a similar style. I, on the other hand, have had to exercise my veto!
