workin' 9 to 5

For those of us who work from home, or even those who don't, a clean, organized home office is always high on the must have list.  Unfortunately, since my home office doubles as a guest room, it doesn't really lend itself to the creativity inducing space I long for.  Even though I am a designer, this room always leaves me at a loss because I want it to be functional as a bedroom but I also want to be able to spread out and use it as a office where I can organize all my magazines, work materials, photos, and fabrics I love to collect.  I like how the following photos show how to squeeze a home office into a small amount of space and it also shows it can be done stylishly!!

pillow talk

Throw pillows are an essential item for any room.  They can bring a splash of color or a touch of whimsy to your space.  Pillows are an inexpensive way to change the look of a room too.  Check out these great pillows I have found!

designer crush

I am a longtime admirer of Suzanne Kasler.  She's an amazing interior designer located in Atlanta, GA. Her work has been featured in countless magazines and she has her own furniture line with Hickory Chair and Ballard Designs.  Her style is polished and refined yet still maintains a comfy, liveable feel to it.  I love her use of neutral color palettes with subtle color thrown in.  Her furniture lines mimic her design style with a traditional influence but could be used in a casual space any day.  Here are some of my favorite rooms of hers...

favorite find of the week

Erin at Elements of Style featured The New Traditionalists furniture company in a blog post yesterday and they are amazing! I instantly fell in love with their website and furniture! I love their tagline too..."If you believe that traditional and cool are not mutually exclusive, you are one of the new traditionalists." My thoughts exactly...traditional can be cool. Their room sketches are phenomenal too! If you have not had a chance, go and check out their website!

playing around

I just discovered Polyvore...how fun is that site?! You can make fashion and interior design inspiration boards using items you see on the internet or they have a catalog of images for you to use. I created a living room inspiration board with a rustic vibe. Here's what I made...like it?

the simple life

My husband and I are searching for a quiet country paradise to build our dream home on.  It's a lot harder than you think...you have all these images in your head of how you want things to look and we don't want to settle on our dreams.  So, whenever I get discouraged thinking we are never going to find that perfect piece of land, I look at these photos and feel inspired and I know that we will find the right place soon and my dreams of quiet country living won't be lost.

my style in one picture

From the Right Bank is challenging bloggers to come up with one picture that defines their style...I scoured the internet searching for the perfect picture that would sum me up.  I have noticed that my style has evolved in the last few years to a more sophisticated, traditional look as opposed to the trendy, of-the-moment style.

Here's a photo of my style...

I love this room because it's a mix of traditional and rustic.  I like the simplicity of this room...it's clean and neutral but there is a punch of color with the throw pillows.  My favorite part of the room has to be the barn board ceiling though. So, there it is, my style in one photo!!

a lighter look

I used to be a dark cabinet kind of gal. My dream kitchen would have espresso stained cabinets from floor to ceiling but then I started giving all white kitchens a closer look. I have changed my ways...I am all about the lighter look.  It's a much more classic and timeless look.  So now visions of white kitchens dance through my head...

reduce, reuse, recycle

In the new issue of 'Southern Flourish' (which I love by the way...you know me & the South!), they feature a company, TN Barn project.  The company consists of two brothers who have made it their mission to create eco-friendly, green furniture as well as buildings (through their construction company, Natural Design).  Their furniture line features items made from re-purposed barn wood that they salvage from old barns slated for demolition around Tennessee.  The finished products are amazing...below are a few of their pieces.
