Way before we moved, I posted an inspiration board for my daughter's "big girl room". Here is a refresher...

I even bought all the bedding from Land of Nod and was all set until I bought the Mary McDonald book and I saw this...

I was obsessed with the navy and hot pink as soon as I laid eyes on this picture! So, a whole new scheme came into my mind and I went with it!

Here's what I have as of right now (it is definitely in the beginning phases, so be kind! And also please ignore the toys!Oh and the bed rails...I guess I am really keeping it real and not getting all that out of the shot!)--

My husband and I made the upholstered headboard over a weekend and everyone was right when I blogged about building or buying a headboard, building one really wasn't all that hard and wasn't too expensive! All it took was plywood, foam, batting, and a few yards of fabric. The fabric was the most expensive thing we bought for it, only because I knew exactly what I wanted. I bought 3 yards of Robert Allen "Jaden" in the Ink colorway. It's a cotton blend and has a linen-like appearance. I am still in search of a pink & white graphic fabric to make a large sham for her bead. I am also planning on using the extra navy fabric we have to make a bolster with pink Greek Key trim. I also need to add some valances over her windows to dress it up a bit.

While bumming around the other day, I found this cute painting for over her dresser! The colors are right and she always talks about New York City and going there just like her mommy does :)

Ok, finally what you guys have been asking for!! A mini tour of my house! I am showing the rooms that I am going to be focusing on right now. It's amazing how sparse our house looks! We only have the major furniture items, nothing on the walls, no lamps, etc. It's driving me crazy but I know I really want to take my time and find the perfect pieces for each space. I want a layered home that looks truly cultivated with things that represent me and my family rather than a place that looks like I went on a one day shopping spree to Home Goods. Don't get me wrong, Home Goods is definitely a trip in my future!

I will start with the entry. Right now, I have a console there and a mirror that I am still debating in that location. Thinking maybe a cool piece of art would be really great right there. I also have a Jill Rosenwald runner I bought before we moved in. Again, not sure if that's it's final resting place or if I may move it to a hallway...

Now onto the dining room...
We hung the clock that was in our old home and I like but I know it definitely needs more on that wall. I was thinking maybe hanging plates in a gallery-like fashion but not sure yet. Again, the clock may go when I start working on this room. I do have a great pair of chocolate brown velvet draperies that I am going to try on the window. I also need to explain the random linen chair in the corner. We bought two of those as host chairs but I made a rookie mistake and forgot about the trestle base not allowing me to push them all the way in. So, they kinda stick out and make it hard to get around the table. I moved one into the breakfast nook and this is it's mate, just hanging out in a corner.

The living room is at the top of my priority list! It needs a side table, lamp, and accessories. I have a few fabrics picked out for throw pillows and I am also debating adding white linen draperies along the french doors. Ps...forgive the Christmas tree. I am happy to report that it is now down :)

And, yes in the background of the photo is my kitchen and breakfast nook. The kitchen is probably my favorite part of the house. It was perfect for the holidays! I didn't feel left out while I was cooking and I had plenty of prep space. The nook is almost done. I just need a piece of art for the recessed wall and throw pillows along the built in bench.

I am proud to say there is one space that is done with the exception of a rug and some art adjustment...the guest bathroom! Hey, an accomplishment is an accomplishment! I would like a small antique rug for in there and I need to move the pictures above the toilet up. I want to add a shelf for above the toilet and the art is too low regardless. The pictures are pretty cool though. They are duck stamps that my husband's grandmother collected for him and I had them re-framed as a birthday gift.

Ok, so there's a peek into some of the rooms! I absolutely love this house! It fits my family so well, not too fussy and it is warm and inviting the minute you walk in. I am so excited to see how I am going to be able to transform this place over time and truly make it my dream home!

One room you didn't see today will be up in a post later this week. I wanted to save my daughter's room to have a separate post so stay tuned!

This is a great "musing" and one that I am making my motto for 2012! I feel like I spent most of last year worrying about the things that don't matter and it took a toll on the things that do, family and friends. I have a tendency to stress out about every last thing at work which can be good sometimes but it can't be every minute of my life. I have made a resolution to keep work at work. No more email alerts, which keeps me from checking my phone after I get home. No more responding to client's text messages after work hours (which in turn creates an expectation that you are always available which we obviously can't be). Ok, sorry for the rant!

Yes, I am still here! Even though I have been very absent on the blogosphere for quite some time! Nothing could have prepared me for how much of a fiasco moving into a new home could be and throw in Thanksgiving and Christmas, and I was a million different directions! Needless to say, I couldn't have made it through without red wine...L.O.T.S. of red wine.

I thought I would give you guys a run-down of what I have been up to since I last blogged!

We moved into our new house! Yay! We got the certificate of occupancy on November 15th and it was full steam ahead to get moved in before Thanksgiving. A brand new house doesn't mean it doesn't come with it's little quirks and problems and I think it's safe to say after almost 6 weeks of people coming in and out to fix minor things, the house is perfect!

And to make things crazier, I flew up to Memphis to run in the St. Jude Half Marathon the first weekend of December. That has to go down as one of the best races I have ever run! Such a great cause and because my team and I raised money for the hospital, we got to tour the facility the day before the race. What an amazing place!! I could seriously go on forever about this place! A very worthy cause and I urge everyone to donate whenever they can!!!

December has been a complete blur! My daughter was out of school for two weeks so I didn't get much accomplished on the work front but I thoroughly enjoyed being home with her. Christmas came and Santa brought her a beautiful new swingset! Santa had a very special elf that helped him a.k.a. Daddy and I am pretty sure we are never ordering a swingset for any present ever again! Took him a week of putting it together after work and he is definitely my hero for doing so!

I joined the club and got an iPhone for Christmas and I am in love with it! I also ponied up and bought a "fancy" camera so I can take better pictures for my blog. Which means I better get back to blogging!!

I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday season and I look forward to being back better than ever in 2012!!

Ok, here are some new shots of the house finally!! I have to apologize for the specks in the photos...something got on my lens :(

This is the view of the kitchen from the living room. Notice my Visual Comfort fixtures? Love them and I am so excited to have them in my home! The kitchen has actually held up progress as of late. The island is the wrong finish than what I wanted so replacement cabinets had to be ordered and will finally be here this week! That means countertops, appliances, and plumbing can go in! Yay!

Our Laundry room, which may be my favorite room so far! I am loving all the storage...there is even a pull out trash can hidden in one of the cabinets! Our old house just had wire shelving so this is a big, exciting upgrade for me!

This is the Master Bath. There is granite countertops that still need to go in and a framed mirror above the vanity. I am in love with the Ann Sacks Penny tile in the shower and I gaze at it lovingly every time we go to the house.

Stuff like this can mess up a project too! Builder wasn't really paying attention to where the toilet was and it was about 2" from the tub so he had to move it over, which isn't exactly easy after the tile is in! So, now the toilet is in the right spot and the tile needs to be fixed.

This is my daughter's bathroom. It is a jack and jill bathroom, but for right now, she can enjoy the bathroom all to herself since there's not another little one to share it with yet.

All in all, the house is moving along. There is definitely a long punch list forming but when isn't there one in new construction? My family and I are more than anxious to get in there asap and we have our fingers crossed we will be there for Thanksgiving!

So, we are still waiting for the new house to be complete...it's so close and I can see it all coming together now! I am dying to decorate the front porch for fall, fingers crossed, it will still be fall when we move ;)

I am dying over all these entryways! Fall is my absolute favorite time of the year, where I pretend it's not 85 degrees out and dream of all the outfits I am going to wear when I can finally pull out my leather boots, when the slightest dip in the temperature feels so cold, and I can paint my nails my favorite taupe OPI color.

I am in charge of my happiness and I have to embrace every moment in order to achieve happiness. Sorry I have been MIA for a few weeks! It has been a crazy few weeks! We have officially moved out of our old house and into a furnished home, waiting for the new house to be completed. Fingers crossed, we will be in there in the next 6 weeks! The temporary home is close to our new home and we are getting acquainted with our new 'hood. My little one starts her new school today and I am hoping she loves it and we only have a few melt-downs in the car line!

I went through my phone to give you guys a glimpse of my life in photos these past few weeks...

I got an IPad for my birthday...yay. And, I dropped it on the ground while we were moving...boo.

Luckily, the people at Apple are super nice and gave me a free replacement (one time only, the salesman kept repeating). I clutched the new one so hard when I left the store; there was no way I was going to let this one meet the same fate as the one above!

I have been working like crazy! Here's a snapshot of a cool tape trim with gold coins I found for one of my clients....

And, the new house has had a lot of progress! We have drywall up now!!

They have also put up the Hardi-Panel on the outside (but no pics of that) and they are putting floors in this week!!! I will take some much better shots this week (as long as I can find my camera in the mess of boxes)!

We are really moving on the house...it's time for all the things that we have selected to be ordered and installed soon! Months ago, I visited an Ann Sacks showroom and fell in love with the Penny Round tile in this beautiful colorway--light cream with a hint of seafoam green around the edge. It has vintage appeal and is a departure from what you see in bathrooms down here. I thought it would be perfect for our shower floor. But, I knew it was a splurge and probably was only going to be a dream.

Well, I kept the sample in my pile of selections and luckily, my husband saw my design intention (or gave in after constant harassing...whatever) and agreed on the Ann Sacks. Yay! I placed the order yesterday so there is no going back!

Things are moving right along at the new house! All the walls are framed inside and outside and it feels like a house. My husband and I are getting anxious now and have started planning all our new furniture purchases even though we had promised to wait until closer to completion. So much for that since a new 8'x10' rug just got delivered today and I have barstools and lighting fixtures sitting in my garage.

Here's a little more on the progress of our new house! We went to visit the job site Sunday when we returned from vacation. It is a little behind schedule thanks to the typical summer thunderstorms but it is looking more and more like a house every time I visit!

I am making a vow to myself that once we move, I am getting organized. I mean really organized, like labels and stuff. I know, it sounds serious.

Maybe I am on the organization kick since I feel like everything at home is far from it! I find myself less inclined every day to put things away in it's proper place and it is starting to wear on me. But, what's the point when you know you are going to pack up and move in a few months? I figure I can go through the whole process of eliminating while I am packing up the house and then organize it all perfectly once the boxes get to the new house.

we have progress!!

Finally, we have progress on the new house!!! I am so excited to see this finally get moving and the builder has a pretty ambitious schedule to getting the house complete.

I haven't shared any photos of the site. The lot we purchased is a little over 2 acres with tons of beautiful trees around. It's a little out of town, which will make it a quiet, country retreat for my family after a long day at work and school. Here's a few shots of the lot and the progress made on Monday...

We should have the foundation poured next week and the concrete block starting on Friday. Now, I am starting to get excited! I was getting a little disappointed in the whole process even though I know these things take awhile. But, hey it's moving now!

Ok, I think I got this figured out! Finally....I am posting my floor plan to the new house! I had a little bit more patience today and figured out how to get the picture to the right size ;)

I think my husband and I did a great job with this plan. It is really well laid out and will fit our family perfectly! The new house will be 2373 square feet (living)...4 bedroom, 3 baths. Good news is we have FINALLY got our building permits and we should start in the next week. Yay!!

I was so excited when a blog reader told me that Cost Plus World Market had a stool almost identical for half the price! What a score! Well, I took my time to purchase and debated it so long, I lost out and it is no longer available. {insert sad face}

This weekend, I was searching online for another stool option and look what I spied at JC Penney! My stool and for even less than the World Market stool...$69.99/each! I snatched 3 of these right up! Even got free shipping! I am so excited about my buy and I can't wait to see them in the new kitchen!!!

Ok, so as much as I would love to be, I am not the queen of DIY. Heck, I am not even in the court. But, I am debating making an upholstered headboard for my daughter's room. The only thing is I found one I could buy at Ballard Designs for a not too bad price. Do I build or buy??

I have thought about the pros and cons of both--

Store Bought

Pros-

No work involved besides the click of my mouse
Can buy ready-made slipcovers for it that I can toss in the washer when it gets dirty
Can have slipcover monogrammed with her initials

Cons-

Could potentially be spending more money than it costs to make one
Pre-determined shape; no chance to to get creative

DIY (based on a headboard from Dwell Studio)

Pros-

I have a handy husband who happens to have the majority of July off, which means plenty of time to help me with this project
Get to create the exact shape I want

Cons-

I have absolutely zero patience when it comes to this stuff
Afraid the cost to build the headboard will equal to the cost to buy

What to do? What to do??

Another designer and I were talking about what makes some people so calm and collected and others stressed and frantic, even when presented with the same daily schedule. What brought this up was after going up and down the stairs in our office for the 4th time in a row hauling samples back and forth, I felt so "AAAHHH"! Not very effortless or collected. I seem to always feel like I am frantic buzzing around from one place to the next.

So, my thought is, the people I see where it seems like nothing fazes them and they are graceful and smooth throughout the day, is it all an act or is there a relaxed gene I am missing?? This post is also coming off of a crazy busy day where I was back and forth and all over and I left the office in an overall disheveled state.

I think sometimes I take for granted all the beautiful things I get exposed to on a daily basis and a lot of the places I order from are to the trade only. So, I thought I would introduce you all to a company that some may be very familiar with, while others may just be hearing about it for the first time!

Hickory Chair is my go-to furniture source. They have some of the best upholstery pieces around and their case goods are to die for! I love them because almost everything is customizable, to the length of a sofa to the finish on a table, all the way to the hardware I want to add to a chest. They also have some pretty big names creating furniture collections for them...Thomas O'Brien, Mariette Himes-Gomez, and Suzanne Kasler to name a few.

I could seriously post every piece of furniture from their website, but I have narrowed it down to a few....

This is the perfect host chair-- It screams relaxed elegance!

The quatrefoil book table never disappoints and changes character with just a change in finish. It could be used in a study in the dark stain but would look right at home in a living room in an antique ivory painted finish.

We've hit a few road blocks lately. So frustrating, but part of the building process! The permitting process has been giving us headaches and we can't do anything until we have the permits.

First roadblock from permitting was a soil test that indicated wetlands...um, not sure where there could be wetlands because it is high and dry there. But, if wetlands are indicated, the EPC (Environmental Protection Commission) has to come out and verify there are/aren't any wetlands. Luckily, they came out last week and verified that the property is dry so we are good to go with that.

Then, there is the roadblock that we are the most worried about. The County is stating that the lot has been "conceptually identified as significant wildlife habitat". Ok? What does that all mean? Turns out, the front corner is the part of the "significant" wildlife habitat. We have submitted a site plan with our other plans showing that we have no intentions of touching that corner of the property. So, our hope is that they will not make too big of a fuss about it and sign off on the plans.

This permitting stuff is crazy and nerve wracking! It can really hold a project up! We are already behind by a month due to these issues and we need them to be figured out asap!

Sp, that's where we are! I hope my next update is a photo of the concrete slab being poured!

I have been searching high and low for the perfect Moroccan-style lantern for a client. We thought it would be a fun addition to her little girls' bedroom! Here's a quick cell phone pic of the headboards in progress....

We also ordered a couple silver Moroccan poufs from Serena & Lily....

So, you can imagine the squeal when I came across this lantern from l'aviva home....

I ordered it immediately in the silver patina finish...three days later, it was delivered to my office and it is gorgeous in person! I will have to take a photo and share with you all once it is installed!! This lantern is the finishing touch to the room and I am so glad I discovered l'aviva home through the new TradHome!

l'aviva has some other great, worldy finds!!

How much fun are these???? I am determined to find a place somewhere for them!

I put together a little inspiration board for the guest bathroom in the new digs. I know I want to paint the walls darker...I love the way dark walls make a smaller space look. Again, a break from the norm that I see in so many spaces around here!

We are going with a pedestal sink since we don't really need too much storage in that bathroom. Honestly, it will hardly be used and there is a large linen closet right next to it. I love the vintage style faucet to go with the pedestal sink. Just completes the look!

The plans call for a medicine cabinet/mirror combo above the sink and I found this one at Pottery Barn. It's a little more interesting than the typical options! I love the sconces PB has shown with it... I am keeping my eye out for something similar.

I put a vintage postcard print of Tampa on the inspiration board as an idea for art work. I love the look of this one but I will be looking for anything that calls to me and will complete the look!

{Sorry for the crazy look of my blog the past few days! PhotoBucket was having some issues but they seem to be fixed!}

I don't think I have been so blown away by a home in my life! I came across this Atlanta home online at Traditional Home and it is a sight to be seen!

It is a testament to well thought-out, good design. All the little details didn't go unnoticed and the soothing color palette throughout is just beautiful!

My favorite has got to be the built-in banquette at the staircase...those curves!!!!

The dining room is a close second...

The master bedroom and bath look like a serene getaway...

I love the blue-gray cabinets in the kitchen and I don't think I have ever hid my affinity for lanterns...

I have been obsessing over the living room in the new house lately! We are getting all new furniture for that area and I have been burning up my keyboard searching for all the right pieces.

I am going for a "modern" traditional look. Little unexpected touches and modern updates to classic forms is what's key.

Here's an inspiration board I have created for the new living room...

The plan so far is to have to comfy sofas facing each other with a chair/ottoman to the side. I am going to re-upholster our current chair and ottoman in the chocolate brown and aqua plaid. I have a cutting of the fabric at home and I love it! I want to throw in an eclectic mix of throw pillows with a floral print, faux bois print, and a pop of lime green.

I will be soooo ready to turn this inspiration board into reality!!

I have a very busy weekend ahead of me! Studio M, the design firm I work for, is involved in an awesome charity project in our area. A deserving single mom gets a complete home makeover and we are in charge of the interior design. This Sunday is the reveal to the mom so the next few days will be spent frantically putting furniture together, rearranging furniture and accessories, and all that jazz! It's all in the name of charity and this project is one reason why I am proud to work at Studio M!

Atlanta Homes & Lifestyles Magazine never disappoints! I am in love with the house designed by Gretchen Edwards and Harrison Design Associates. Set on a beautiful lakeside backdrop, this home is the definition of rustic elegance.

The main living area has tons of natural light pouring through all the windows....a necessity for any vacation home!

The dining room is very casual and laid back....

My favorite part of the home was the details in the bedrooms and bathrooms. I love the mix of the paneled walls and soft, upholstered bed and in the bathroom, the wood and metal combo is perfection to me!

I am going to take a departure from my typical posts and get a little serious now. There is a lot going on with the Interior Design profession here in Florida. Interior Designers have been put on a list with dozens of other professions to be de-regulated. Some of the other professions up for de-regulation are movers and hair braiders...seriously, 4 years of education and I am lumped together with a person who braids hair on the beach?!

By de-regulating interior design, it will force us to have to have architects sign off on all commercial work where now we are able to submit work under our license. It takes the interior design profession back a few steps in being taken more seriously. Florida's governor is putting these professions up for deregulation saying it will encourage job growth but in the design perspective, it actually does the opposite. It will put a lot of firms out of business that rely on primarily commercial work. Also, in most Interior Design degrees, the majority of coursework is commercial based. This bill will ultimately kill all design degree programs and make them useless. Nice to know I have student loans for nothing! This bill doesn't effect residential design at all since you don't have to be licensed to design residential interiors, but you have to be licensed to design commercial interiors. In school, the focus is on codes, health, safety, and welfare in commercial spaces. I spent 4 years in school memorizing all the codes, another 2 years working towards taking my licensing exam, studying my butt off and passing the exam, and now for the government to tell me it means nothing and I will have to give work to an architect, is such an unsettling feeling.

Proponents of the deregulation bill are saying that Interior Designers have put a monopoly on decorators ability to work in commercial spaces. But, the only ones who prevented them from working on commercial spaces is themselves. They chose not to pursue a design education, or maybe they do have the degree, but chose not to take the licensing exam. So, now everyone will be punished because news flash--they aren't going to be getting any more commercial work from this bill being passed unless they are an architect.

Take away the decorators vs. designers argument, and consider the men vs. women owned businesses. Interior Designer businesses are primarily female owned and the majority of architecture firms are male owned. This bill basically takes away the power that us females had in the design field and gives it back to the male-owned business. Pretty antiquated, no?

I will wrap up my rant with a plead to sign this petition for removing interior design from the list of professions set to be de-regulated. It will mean so much to me and all the other countless designers and design students who are fighting for our profession in Florida this week.

I haven't talked about the new house in awhile so I will give you a little update! We have selected all our flooring, cabinetry, some lighting, and appliances.

My favorite part of the whole house is the flooring the Mr. and I selected for the main living areas...it is a beautiful, rustic, scraped hardwood and I am so excited to see it in the house!

Here are all the other selections for the kitchen...

I went with two different finishes for the cabinets. The back wall of cabinets will be white and the island will be an espresso finish. I scored the Thomas O'Brien Hicks Pendants for a song from my last job and I can't wait to have them installed!

I am still torn on the backsplash for the kitchen...do I do subway tiles, glass tiles, stone??? Decisions, decisions!

I love it! It can be worn 3 ways...across the body, as a clutch, or as a shoulder bad. Tori, you're a genius! But, it isn't a good every day bag. It's a good weekend bag. I need something with a little more room for the weekdays. I have my eye on these few leather lovelies....

I wore this on my shoulder all around Bloomies when trying to decide which purse I should get. I am still dreaming of it!

I am in love with the website Barnlight Electric. I discovered after reading a blog post by Simply Seleta a few weeks ago. Of course, I had all intentions of blogging about it last week but didn't get around to it.

Barnlight Electric has so many cool rustic barn lights (hence the name) but they also carry some other great fixtures that are a fun departure from your typical big box store lights. The prices aren't bad either! That's a plus in my book...good prices and good design!

I can picture these over my kitchen island...

This adds a nice pop of color and vintage charm...

I am in love with the bold yet traditional feel of this house. The owners are originally from New York but moved to Houston. They definitely put a big city feel to a traditionally Southern style.

A foyer covered in black lacquer wallcovering...very cool and unexpected!

This living room says casual glamour to me...

Peacock blue is fast becoming one of my favorite colors...the designer covered the walls in this library in it and I am in love!

Perfect example of blending contemporary with traditional...an Andy Warhol print resting on a very traditional chest....

Long time, no blog!! I came back from my trip to New York last week and I was so exhausted and had a ton of catch up stuff to do, I couldn't even think about blogging! My trip was a blast...my mom, sister, and I ate and shopped our way around the city!

Again, I have to apologize for the infrequency of posts! I have had a ton of things going on, a lot with the new house and the most important being a new job! I now work for Studio M in Tampa as a Senior Designer! I met Michelle and Eric from Studio M while in New York for Nate Day and kept in touch over the next few months. As Studio M grew with more and more clients, they called me to see if I wanted to become a part of the team. It was hard to say no! Studio M is a very busy firm with a great group of people and the experience I am gaining there is invaluable. While it was very sad to say goodbye to my previous bosses of 8 years, I knew if I wanted to grow professionally, I had to take this position.

I am now working full time as opposed to part time and it is taking some getting used to! So, please please forgive me if I have a few really short posts here and there or sometimes skip a post...just trying to get used to the work force again!!

Here's another addition to my 'design done right' files...gray is definitely here to stay as a force in the neutral world. Here is a vignette of beautiful lacquered buffet with hints of antique brass. Above the buffet, sit a pair of pewter lamps that bring symmetry and another dimension of gray to the room. No one can deny the beauty of the fabric panel hung in the background and the tortoise shell mirror that hangs in front.

oh the pressure!!

As everyone knows, my husband and I are planning on building a new house this year. We held off on starting construction until we put our current home on the market, thinking we would have plenty of time to get our act together on the new home. Months and months of time...no rush. Well, that isn't exactly how it played out. We put our home on the market officially on January 16th and it was under contract on January 21st. Um, yeah, waaaay faster than we thought!! That's great news but now there is so much to do to get the ball rolling.

I have contemplated finishes and talked about my ideas on the blog for awhile now, again thinking I had plenty of time until I had to really decide. Now, I feel like I have designer stage fright! Not sure where to start and nervous that I am not making the right decision...this is what it sounds like in my head all the time..."I really want a white kitchen, am I going to love it in 5 years? 10 years? What about moving this wall this way a few inches...oh wait, no"...ugh, my brain is fried!! I think it's crazy how for clients it is so easy to make the decision. I am not emotionally attached to anything. I am confident in my selections but then it comes down to my own house and I am so torn!

I have had wing chairs on my mind for a week now after searching the internet and catalogs for the perfect one for a client.

Wing chairs have got to be one of my favorite upholstery items. They can be used everywhere, they make a cozy reading spot in a living room and a luxe addition to any dining room as host chairs.

Wing chairs can vary in style from traditional to modern and some with a little of both thrown in. Here are some of my favorites I have come across--

I love this one from Restoration Hardware with the natural linen upholstery and nailhead trim. It brings the wing chair to a more natural, rustic state.

This one designed by Celerie Kemble is all glamour with the tufting and velvet upholstery.

A blend of traditional and modern, this wing chair could be at home in either setting.

window shopping :: pieces inc

I decided to do a little "window shopping" at Pieces Inc. last night. I hadn't been on the website in awhile and I had some extra time, so why not? (Side note...that is how so many of my real life shopping trips start, "Oh I have 30 minutes to kill, I will just run into the mall and look" and 30 minutes later, I have my hands full with bags of things I probably don't need). Luckily for my husband, my debit card was nowhere in sight when I browsed around the Pieces website.

My mental shopping cart looked a little like this--

Who wouldn't want a pair of these pristine beauties? It would have to be in a no-kid zone because I can only imagine what these would look like after an afternoon with a two year old!

Oh, how I love a Chippendale chair! The bright apple green lacquer gives a modern twist to a classic.

I am in love with this desk. It's a mix of rugged glamour with the wood top and bright chrome legs.

Love this...again wouldn't work with kids or pets but this is just for pretend anyway!

I love most anything made from reclaimed wood and these look so refined yet rustic with their architectural form.

How did I not know about Jess Constable?? I just discovered her blog, Makeunder My Life, this weekend and I sat for hours reading all the posts. So full of inspiring articles and knowledge... I felt like I was talking with a friend with all her advice on pursuing your life's passions. I can't say enough about how wonderful the blog is and how Jess seems like one of the nicest people you will ever meet, someone who would always have your back and be one of the most supportive friends ever. That is why I added her to my Google Reader stat, so I can get a daily dose of that inspiration!

On top of being a stellar blogger, she is a jewelry designer to boot! I fell in love with a lot of her pieces! So, please, if you haven't checked out Makeunder My Life or Jess LC Jewelry, you should pronto! You won't be disappointed!

On a different note, thanks for all the comments on the new look for the blog! I wanted something crisp and clean and I think Bailey from B's Blog Boutique did an excellent job with the redesign!

Earlier this week, I got an email in my inbox from Melissa Warner from Massuco Warner Miller...I know, I was pretty excited. I clicked on it and it was an announcement. MWM are now carrying a line of throw pillows! It was only a matter of time until these uber talented ladies ventured into product design.

There is only a small collection right now but I am sure it will be expanding in the next year. Here's a few that I loved...

I am starting a new series on the blog called 'design done right'. I will take a picture of a space and call out where the designer got it right and what makes it great.

I found the perfect image to start this series while perusing the latest edition of Lonny. I usually lean toward a more traditional or transitional room but something about this space stood out to me. It is the home of West Elm's manager of color and concept, Angel Dormer. Her home is filled with color, eclectic finds, and great artwork. This is a perfect example of modern eclectic design done right!

I haven't done a 'favorite find' post in awhile and I found something totally worthy yesterday! I discovered the blog, "Simply Seleta", and I am hooked!! How did I not know about her? She is a sassy, Southern stylista with 4 beautiful kiddos and a handsome husband. I can't wait to read all her past posts and I look forward to all her future ones!

I have something pretty exciting going on this weekend...I am running my first half marathon! I am very excited to be running the Disney World Half Marathon with three of my girlfriends. After 11 weeks of training, I am ready for Saturday! Wish me luck!

Ok, this is a fun one... I am making a pretty easy personal resolution for myself this year. I want to make it a point to watch some of the classic movies and read great books, the kind that inspire people and make the lists for what you must read or you must watch. I would love to hear your suggestions...what book or movie do you suggest for me???

In continuation with my resolutions and goals for this year, I will lay out my goals for myself professionally this year. These goals and wishes are always in the back of my mind every day and have been for years.

I know that I am not living up to my potential in my field and have kind of short-changed myself and taken the easy road for awhile. 2011 is going to be the year where I want to break out of my comfort zone and push myself to be the kind of designer and business person I know I can be. I know I have a long road ahead of me and people work for years and years to establish themselves and I guess there is no better time than the present!

I am looking forward to all that this year is going to have to offer for me professionally and as I talked about in the last post, I am planning on giving you all more glimpses into that life more often!
